In this week’s ‘Starting Conversations’, we chatted up fellow travel enthusiast John Sencion who spills the beans on FLIGHT 001 - a one-stop shop for the modern-day traveler.
John Sencion with fellow co-founder Brad John - two business travellers who had spent far too much time preparing for their trip, envisioned a travel store as streamlined as flight itself.
MS: Hey John, we’re absolutely loving FLIGHT 001 - can you tell us a bit more about your products and the idea behind the brand?
Flight 001 pioneered the travel accessory market by curating a one-stop shop for travel in 1999…everything for travel under one roof. From 1942-1984 Flight 001 was a route that originated in San Francisco and then circled the globe making stops in Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Frankfurt, London and finally landing in New York 48 hours after takeoff. This route inspired us to create product with a retro flare for the jet setter. Flight 001 is a seamless experience.
MS: As frequent travellers yourselves, what top tips can you offer My Swft customers to make their journey as streamline as possible?
Less is more. I can’t remember the last time I checked in luggage. Spacepak system allows me to do this so I never travel without these packing bags. Spacepak allows you to compress and compartmentalize your clothes which streamlines your entire packing and unpacking travel experience.
MS: With the idea of FLIGHT 001 originally thought up aboard a flight between New York and Paris, who would you give up your window seat for and choose as your dream travel date?
Richard Branson. I read several of his books including “Losing My Virginity” so I feel like I know him but have never met him. I have so many questions to ask him. His lust for life and evolving business is inspirational and galactic.
MS: Favourite travel destination?
My favorite travel destination is a new country every year. I enjoy experiencing new cultures and being in a place where you don’t speak the language and need to exchange currency. When I get home I feel like my brain has been rebooted and I can start with fresh new outlook.
MS: And finally, what’s next on the horizon for FLIGHT 001?
We’re in the middle of a radical transformation and plan to innovate and relaunch the brand before the end of the year. We’re excited to go back to our roots and curate travel like we have never done before. We’re confident this relaunch we'll have us soaring to new heights. Welcome aboard!
