Ski resorts across Europe are beginning to confirm their opening dates for the coming season. Bookings have been underway for months now and with snow falling already, this ski season might be a little closer than you think. Alpe d'Huez - 1st December 2018

Epic skiing in a sun-drenched alpine valley, Alpe d'Huez is the consummate all-rounder and plans to open the slopes early this year. Also home to one of the best beginner areas in the Alps. (Bags of après too)

Avoriaz - 14th December 2018

The heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area, Avoriaz has access to high-altitude skiing that’s suited to all abilities.

Chamonix - 8th December 2018

This charming and lively ski town is just an hour’s drive from Geneva airport, making it great for a short break. Rumours abound Les Houches will open at the weekend as early as 17th November...

Courchevel - 8th December 2018

The chic and exclusive one of the Three Valleys, Courchevel has a good selection of north facing slopes making it a very attractive skiing spot at each end of the season.

Flaine - 15th December 2018

The major resort in Le Grand Massif opens on the modest date of the 15th December. Loads of skiing and within easy reach of Geneva airport.

La Plagne/Les Arcs - 15th December 2018

The giant Paradiski area these two resorts form will be waiting until mid-December 2018.

Les Deux Alpes - 1st December 2018

Les Deux Alpes is a snow sure resort offering some extraordinary off-piste riding. With a peak altitude of 3568m, skiing is pretty much guaranteed here, even in the poorest winters for snow.

Meribel - 8th December 2018 (estimated)

Meribel is the upmarket and lively centre point to Les Trois Vallées ski area.

Morzine - 15th December 2018 (estimated)

Another resort within easy reach of Geneva airport, and another short break specialist. Opening dates are subject to snow conditions lower down.

Tignes - 24th November 2018

A combination of impressive snow cover, terrain variation and a season that actually last most of the year ensures Tignes is one of the most reliable winter ski resorts.

Val d’Isère - 24th November 2018

An ideal ski resort for many holiday goers, Val d’Isère offers high-quality skiing for a long winter season right through to May.

Val Thorens - 17th November 2018

The first resort in the Three Valleys’ network to officially open, Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe, offers almost exclusively ski-in-ski-out accommodation and packs in the action on and off the slopes.

Laying claim to the best après in Europe, these two hope to be up and running from early December.

Ischgl - 22nd November 2018

Ischgl kicks off the season with the famous ‘Top of the Mountain Opening Concert’ where the likes of Muse, Rihanna and Elton John have played, a great one for early season revellers.

Lech, Zurs and St Anton - 30th November 2018

These chic and stylish resorts are now joined by the Flexenbahn lift to form an enormous yet immaculate combined ski area of over 300km on-piste, almost the same again off it.

Mayrhofen - 1st December 2018

Rise and Fall festival is an extreme sport regular in the Mayrhofen calendar and this year kicks off on 14th December, bringing the best out of this jovial market town.

Kitzbühel - 13th October 2018

The lifts are already open in this chocolate box Austrian resort, frequently voted the world’s best. Slopes for every level and oodles of off-piste too.

Obergurgl - 15th November 2018

The Winter Opening Party is officially kicked-off at the Winter Palace on November 16, 2018. The Austrians lead us out in style.

Zell am See - 30th November 2018 (estimated)

Recently connected to Saalbach to form a 350km ski area. Zell am See hopes to sneak open before December arrives.


Courmayeur - 24th November 2018

This Italian sweetheart,in the Aosta valley the other side of Mont Blanc from Chamonix, hopes to be open very early. Another good short break option with Geneva within an hour’s drive.

Cervinia - 20th October 2018

The other major resort in the Aosta Valley, Cervinia is Italy’s most snow-sure ski resort. The village sits at a whopping 2,000m, with skiing rising to 3,500m.


Saas Fee - 14th July 2018

Picturesque and extremely high altiude. Saas Fee is famous for its glacier skiing that, as you can see, remains open for most of the year.

Verbier - 1st December 2018

Snow sure with spectacular scenery and challenging terrain. Verbier is not for the faint-hearted nor the shallow-pocketed.

Zermatt - Open year-round

One of Europe’s (the world’s) most exclusive resorts, Zermatt sits In the shadow of the Matterhorn, with a glacier you can ski on whatever the date.


Grandvalira - 1st December 2018

Soldeu, El Tarter and Pas de la Casa have merged to create the largest ski area in the country. There’s loads of skiing here, it's extremely affordable and it has a lively nightlife!
